Lowe’s Raises Over $7.5 Million to Help Fight Muscular Dystrophy
Funds raised by MDA’s largest Shamrocks retailer, Lowe’s, Help Families With Muscular Dystrophy and Related Muscle-Debilitating Diseases Live Longer and Grow Stronger
CHICAGO, April 26, 2016— Lowe’s stores nationwide united to raise over $7.5 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) iconic Shamrocks program which helps raise critical funds to save and improve the lives of kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases that severely weaken muscle strength and mobility. As MDA’s largest Shamrocks retailer, this year marks 15 years of Lowe's Shamrocks support, which now totals more than $57 million in overall funds raised since first teaming up with MDA in 2001.
“This year Lowe’s employees rallied together to raise significant funds that will help MDA provide its families with the critical resources they need to live longer and grow stronger,” said James Frison, Lowe’s director of community relations. “We are honored to help give thousands of kids with muscle-debilitating diseases a life-changing, barrier-free experience by supporting and volunteering at MDA Summer Camps.”
Throughout the campaign, Lowe’s customers were invited to join the nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day fundraising program by adding paper Shamrocks to their purchase at check-out for $1, $5 or a larger contribution – all benefiting MDA. The Shamrocks were then displayed in unique and creative ways at the stores, showing Lowe’s support to help kids and adults living with neuromuscular diseases.
“MDA is grateful to boast 15 years and over $57 million in support from a company like Lowe’s that goes above and beyond to bring strength, independence and life to the individuals we serve through summer camp and all of MDA’s services,” said MDA Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer Ann McNamara. “It is thanks to Lowe’s employees and customers who support the Shamrocks program each year that MDA is able to provide families affected by muscle-debilitating diseases with the care they need today, while helping to make tomorrow free from the diseases themselves.”
Together, all participating retailers raised critical funds in support of MDA's shared mission to find research breakthroughs across diseases; care for kids and adults from day one; and empower families with services and support in hometowns across America.
